October 2026: The Masks We Outgrow
October has always felt magical to me.
Part of that is easy to explain.
I love the cooler mornings, the changing leaves, the smell of cinnamon and pumpkin baking in the oven, and the quiet invitation to slow down before winter arrives.
And yes…
I have always loved Halloween.
As a child, Halloween felt like one of the few nights when transformation seemed possible.
For a few hours, you could become anything you imagined.
A pirate.
A superhero.
A ghost.
Someone brave.
Someone mysterious.
Someone entirely different.
Looking back, I wonder if what captivated me wasn't the costumes themselves.
It was the possibility that change could happen at all.
The Costumes We Never Meant to Keep
As I grew older, I discovered something strange.
The costumes didn't disappear after Halloween.
They simply became invisible.
Some of them earned praise.
Some of them protected me.
Some of them slowly became prisons.
For a long time, I believed transformation meant becoming whatever the world seemed to reward.
A better student.
A more accomplished person.
Someone who appeared to have everything under control.
From the outside, many of those changes looked successful.
Inside, they often felt exhausting.
Because eventually I realized something.
A mask that earns applause…
is still a mask.
And no matter how beautiful it becomes,
it was never designed to be worn forever.
Transformation or Performance?
One of October's greatest invitations seems to be asking a deceptively simple question:
Am I becoming more myself… or simply becoming better at performing who I think I'm supposed to be?
Those aren't the same journey.
Performance asks:
"What version of me will receive approval?"
Transformation asks:
"What remains when approval is no longer the goal?"
That question has shaped much of my own healing.
For years, I believed healing meant fixing myself.
Correcting flaws.
Trying harder.
Becoming someone worthy.
Eventually I began to recognize something very different.
Healing wasn't asking me to become someone else.
It was asking me to stop abandoning the person who had been there all along.
Doors That Once Felt Closed
This October, I'll be taking steps toward reclaiming something I once believed I had lost forever.
For a long time, I carried the assumption that one mistake had permanently closed a door in my life.
Now, years later, that same door is beginning to open again.
Whether everything unfolds exactly as I hope isn't really the point.
The point is that I'm finally walking toward it.
Not because I know exactly what waits on the other side.
But because I'm no longer letting the past decide which futures I'm allowed to pursue.
I think many of us have doors like that.
Dreams we quietly stopped believing were possible.
Relationships we assumed could never heal.
Parts of ourselves we believed had disappeared forever.
Sometimes the greatest transformation isn't finding a brand-new path.
It's finding the courage to walk back toward one we thought we'd lost.
Becoming Ourselves
October's astrology speaks repeatedly about alignment.
About reassessing our values.
About releasing old identities.
About bringing our actions into closer relationship with what truly matters.
The tarot echoed something similar.
Again and again, the cards pointed toward honesty, authenticity, and the willingness to stop fighting battles that no longer belong to us.
Taken together, they leave me with one quiet realization.
Perhaps transformation isn't about becoming someone new.
Perhaps it's about becoming less afraid to be who we already are.
Not all at once.
Not perfectly.
Just one honest choice at a time.
Monthly Gentle Practice
Notice one role, expectation, or identity you've been carrying that feels more like a performance than an authentic expression of yourself.
You don't need to abandon it overnight.
Simply become curious.
Ask yourself:
"If no one expected this version of me, would I still choose it?"
Sometimes awareness itself is the beginning of transformation.
Monthly Mantra
I release the need to become someone else.
And I embrace the courage to become more fully myself.
A Gentle Reminder
The most meaningful transformations rarely happen overnight.
They unfold quietly.
One honest conversation.
One healed belief.
One courageous decision.
One step toward a future that once seemed impossible.
This October, may you remember that you are not required to earn your authenticity.
You don't have to become worthy of being yourself.
You simply have to become willing to stop hiding behind the masks you've outgrown.
