September 2026: When the Path Changes

Sometimes, healing asks us to loosen our grip.

Not because we’re giving up. Not because the things we care about no longer matter. But because the way we originally planned to move forward may no longer fit the life we’re actually living.

The past few months have asked me to navigate some difficult changes in my mental health. For a while, I tried to meet those challenges through the routines, practices, and forms of support I already had.

I had a plan for how I would move forward. I had expectations about what I should be able to manage. And perhaps most importantly, I had a strong desire to remain in control of the process.

But life did not follow the plan I had created.

Eventually, I had to acknowledge that my needs had changed. Some of the things I had been carrying required more support than I had been able to give myself alone.

Accepting that has brought up complicated emotions.

Part of me knows that receiving help can be an important part of healing. Another part is deeply protective of my independence—and afraid that accepting support might mean losing authority over my own life.

When Independence Becomes Armor

I think this tension may be familiar to many Highly Sensitive Souls.

When we’ve spent years feeling misunderstood, when our emotions have seemed too intense for the people around us, or when our needs have been dismissed, minimized, or treated as inconvenient, self-reliance can begin to feel like the safest option.

We learn to carry things quietly.

We become skilled at anticipating other people’s reactions. We may avoid asking for what we need because disappointment feels harder to bear than doing everything ourselves.

Over time, independence can become more than a strength. It can become a form of armor.

That armor may have protected us. It may have helped us move through experiences where support was unavailable or came with conditions.

But eventually, the same armor that protects us can also make it difficult for anything nourishing to reach us.

Boundaries or Walls?

The Four of Pentacles in September’s zodiac reading made me think about the difference between boundaries and walls.

There are boundaries that keep us safe, and there are walls that keep us alone. From the outside, they may look almost identical. Inside, however, they feel very different.

A healthy boundary allows us to remain connected to ourselves. It helps us recognize what we need, what we can offer, and what we are not willing to accept.

A defensive wall may protect us from disappointment, but it can also ask us to disconnect from everyone else.

The challenge is learning which one we are building.

Accepting help does not have to mean surrendering our discernment. Listening does not require unquestioning agreement. Allowing someone to accompany us does not mean they get to decide who we are or where our path must lead.

Perhaps support is not about handing someone else the map.

Perhaps it is simply allowing another person to walk beside us while we continue finding our own way.

When the Original Plan No Longer Fits

This lesson has also been appearing in my creative life.

Normally, I like to have each Libra Rising forecast finished and published before the first day of the month. This time, that may not happen.

My present circumstances have changed the amount of time and energy I have available. I’ve had to confront the uncomfortable feeling that changing my timeline means I’m failing to honor my commitment.

But the more I sit with that fear, the more I recognize that commitment and rigidity are not the same thing.

Commitment is loyalty to what matters.

Rigidity is loyalty to the original plan—even when that plan no longer supports us.

I still care deeply about Libra Rising. I still want to create forecasts, meditations, and reflections that offer comfort and meaningful guidance to sensitive souls.

That vision has not disappeared.

The route has simply changed.

There is a third option between forcing ourselves to follow the original plan and abandoning what matters altogether. We can change the structure, adjust the pace, and preserve the heart of what we are trying to create.

Flexibility does not always reveal a lack of commitment. Sometimes, it is what allows commitment to remain sustainable.

Creating Safer Soil

September’s Virgo New Moon invites us to create structures that genuinely support the lives we are living now.

Not the lives we expected to be living.

Not the lives we believe we should be able to manage.

The lives that are actually here—with their limitations, responsibilities, uncertainties, and unexpected needs.

The Empress, who appeared at the center of September’s Elemental Collective Reading, offers a similar reminder.

Growth requires more than effort. It requires nourishment, patience, and conditions that allow life to develop at its own pace.

We would not pull on the stem of a young plant to make it grow faster. And yet, we often treat ourselves as though force should be able to accelerate healing.

Maybe healing is not always about trying harder.

Maybe sometimes it is about creating safer soil.

Allowing more support.

Releasing an expectation.

Changing a timeline.

Or admitting that the way we have been carrying something has become too heavy to continue carrying alone.

A Changed Path Is Not a Lost Path

August taught me that I could walk through the darkness without making it the main event.

September seems to be asking a different question:

Can I allow the path to change without believing I have lost my way?

I don’t think I have a complete answer yet.

Part of me still wants certainty. Part of me still wants a clear plan that guarantees everything will work out.

But perhaps trust does not require knowing exactly where the changed path will lead.

Perhaps trust is the willingness to take the next honest step while remaining connected to ourselves.

To accept help without abandoning our inner voice.

To adjust the plan without abandoning the vision.

To protect our boundaries without closing ourselves off from care.

And to recognize that flexibility is not always a sign that we have failed.

Sometimes, it is evidence that we are finally listening.

If your own life has taken an unexpected turn, if your plans no longer fit your present capacity, or if accepting support has brought up fears about losing yourself, I hope you remember that changing the route does not erase the distance you have already traveled.

It does not make your vision less meaningful.

And it does not mean someone else gets to define your destination.

You are allowed to move differently.

You are allowed to receive support.

You are allowed to remain discerning.

And you are allowed to let healing reshape the journey without believing you have lost your way.

Perhaps loosening our grip is not the moment we stop caring.

Perhaps it is the moment we make enough room for life to help carry us, too.

Monthly Reflection Questions

  • Where might the original plan no longer support the life I am living now?

  • What is the difference between receiving support and surrendering my inner authority?

  • Is a boundary currently protecting my well-being—or has it become a wall that keeps me isolated?

  • What could become more sustainable if I allowed myself to move differently?

  • What might “creating safer soil” look like in my life this month?

Monthly Gentle Practice

Choose one responsibility, expectation, or plan that currently feels heavier than it needs to be.

Rather than asking yourself how to push through it, gently consider:

How could I carry this differently?

You might reduce the scope, adjust the timeline, ask for assistance, take a restorative pause, or release one part that is no longer essential.

The goal is not to abandon what matters. It is to experiment with supporting it in a way that also supports you.

Monthly Mantra

I release fear that changing the plan means I have lost my way.

And I embrace faith that I can honor my needs without abandoning my vision.

A Gentle Reminder

Changing the plan does not mean the journey has failed.

Resting does not mean you have stopped growing.

Receiving support does not mean you have surrendered your inner authority.

And honoring your present capacity does not make your vision any less meaningful.

Sometimes, the path changes because we are finally listening closely enough to recognize what we truly need.

Take gentle care of yourself this month.
