TLHumbert.com and Brain Freeze

A full-scale book launch project combining website design, serialized publishing, audiobook production, and paid social media marketing.

Project Overview

Brain Freeze is a science fiction novel by Taurie Humbert, published across multiple platforms including a dedicated website, Amazon, and YouTube.

The project involved transforming a traditional manuscript into a multi-format digital experience—combining serialized web publishing, full audiobook production, and targeted social media campaigns to drive traffic and engagement.

Role

Website Designer, Content Editor, Audiobook Producer, and Social Media Marketer

I managed the digital publishing process from manuscript to launch, including website design, content formatting, audio production, and paid advertising campaigns.

Skills

Website Design & UX

  • Built and structured a serialized reading experience on Squarespace

  • Designed navigation for multi-part chapter flow (10–26 parts per chapter)

  • Implemented paywalled content for premium chapters

Content Editing & Formatting

  • Proofread and edited manuscript for clarity and readability

  • Structured chapters for both web and audio formats

  • Adapted content for serialized consumption

Audiobook Production

  • Produced full audiobook using ElevenLabs

  • Edited and assembled audio using Audacity and Shotcut

  • Uploaded and managed long-form audio on YouTube (unlisted + embedded)

Social Media Marketing & Ads

  • Created and managed campaigns via Meta Ads Manager

  • Tested audience segments (35–54 vs 55+)

  • Developed ad creatives and landing page strategies

  • Analyzed traffic behavior and adjusted campaigns accordingly

Results & Metrics

Initial campaigns generated low-cost traffic (~$0.06 to ~$0.29 per landing page view) with strong mobile engagement.

Audience testing revealed higher engagement and lower costs among older demographics (55+), with improved results after refining targeting and landing page strategy.

On-site engagement showed meaningful time spent on page (~8+ minutes), with some users continuing through serialized content beyond the entry point.

Strategy & Iteration

The project involved continuous testing and iteration across both content and marketing systems.

Key adjustments included:

  • Shifting landing pages from overview pages to direct story entry points

  • Testing creative variations to identify audience resonance

  • Refining audience targeting based on engagement patterns

These changes improved both user engagement and campaign efficiency over time.

Challenges & Lessons

The project highlighted the challenges of managing multiple platforms and tools simultaneously, including ad platform inconsistencies, mobile-heavy traffic behavior, and high bounce rates on initial landing pages.

These challenges required ongoing adaptation and reinforced the importance of testing, patience, and clear user pathways in digital publishing.

What’s Next?

The system built for Brain Freeze provides a foundation for future book launches, including scalable publishing workflows, integrated audio content, and refined audience targeting strategies.
